Water Finance: Public Responsibilities and Private Opportunities

The water sector is the subject of this book, which investigates the crucial junction between the responsibilities of the public sector and the potential for investment in the private sector.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the ways in which governments might increase water infrastructure and services while also ensuring that everyone has access to clean water.

As we are well aware, starting 90's Public-private partnerships (PPPs)  emerged as a popular model for financing water projects. These partnerships involve collaboration between government entities and private companies to fund, build, and operate water infrastructure. PPPs can bring in private sector expertise, innovation, and funding to supplement public resources, leading to more efficient and cost-effective solutions. But is it? that's one of the key point this book want to address.

The book demonstrates how collaboration between public and private sectors can address the global water infrastructure gap while maintaining water as a public good. It provides practical frameworks for policymakers, investors, and water utility managers to create sustainable water financing solutions.

However, core Challenge remains as:
Water is both a human right and a service that requires significant financial resources to deliver? The fundamental tension lies in ensuring universal access while maintaining system sustainability.
